BRC: How much is a bale of hay? With Charlotte Bacon

In 2018's November edition of the British Riding Club 'RIDER' magazine, we caught up with HorseQuest Ambassador Charlotte Bacon, to find out some weird and wonderful facts for their 'How much is a bale of hay' feature...

How much is a bale of hay?

Too much!

When you were a child did who did you admire/inspired you?

I was totally pony obsessed and Pippa Funnel was winning the Rolex Grand Slam at the time. I just remember wanting to do what she did.

What is your greatest achievement to date?

I am extremely lucky to have medalled at pony and junior level however jumping double clear in my Event Rider Masters debut when I was 18 on Last Touch was huge for me.

What is the most embarrassing moment of your career so far?

Getting very nearly bucked off at the Pony European Championships in 2013 after my final halt in my test. Or being hung up by my jeans in the main arena at Gatcombe after attempting to climb the fence.

If your horse was human who would he be?

We definitely have a George Clooney on the yard in Cooley Enno, he has the character and the looks to go with it.

Who would you have at your ultimate dinner party? (living or dead)

Johnny Depp, The cast of friends, and Tommy Shelby!

What was the first album/cd you ever bought?

I think it was a Christmas Bangers CD… Santa Claus was a bit of a big deal at the time.

If you could start your career all over again would you follow a different path?

Not yet – I’m very lucky to have dreamt of doing this since I was very little. I do sometimes wonder what I may have been doing otherwise however seeing as I can’t see myself doing anything else, the answer would have to be no!

If you could take three items to a desert island what would they be?

Gin, a lifetime supply of pasta and a genies lamp.

Do you possess any lucky underwear?

I used to be adamant that my pants and socks had a huge impact on my results ..however soon learnt that it didn’t! But if I have done well in a certain pair of breeches one week, they soon become flavour of the month.

If you could choose anyone to play you in a film who would it be?

This is a tricky one.. maybe Emma Stone, she always seems to work alongside Ryan Reynolds and I think I could live with that!

If you could be any breed of horse which would you be?

A Shetland would be cool – we’d be about the same height too.

Dogs or cats?

Dogs all the way – I am definitely not a cat person.

How old were you when you had your first pony/horse?

My brother and I were both on ponies before we could walk - so quite young I think.

What did you win your first rosette for?

Probably tack and turnout.. I was quite particular.

Finally, what could you not live without?

My bed!
